Professor Douglas Laycock lectures on religious liberty and the culture wars to mark his appointment as the Robert E. Scott Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Virginia School of Law.Laycock, one of the nation's foremost authorities on religious liberty, says: "Religious liberty is a fundamental constitutional right, but it has become a battleground in the culture wars."He argues that the solution to many culture-war battles -- such as the debates over contraception and same-sex marriage -- is mutual tolerance modeled on religious liberty, but too many activists on each side are uninterested in mutual tolerance.UVA Law Dean Paul J. Mahoney introduces Laycock.
