Collection Description & Arrangement

Conrad's Orator's Medal was awarded to him in 1890 by the Washington Society of the University of Virginia Law School while he was a law student. It was donated to the Law School Library by George Newton Conrad's granddaughter, Harriet Conrad Crutchfield Look, in 2007 where it is displayed in an exhibit case in Special Collections.

Biographical & Historical Information

Born on August 24, 1869, George Newton Conrad married Emily Pasco of Monticello, Florida and had six children, two of whom also became lawyers, and one of whom also received his law degree from Virginia Law; that son was Samuel J. Pasco, Law 1899. Conrad and both sons lived and practices law in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Conrad served as Rockingham County Commonwealth's Attorney for 12 years, was a respected member of the Virginia State Senate, and was active in church and civic affairs until his death on January 21, 1937.
