Biographical Information
Charles C. Abeles was born on November 3, 1929 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was the son of the late Charles Taussig Abeles and Sally Pope Taylor Abeles. His education included Granby School, 1945; Milton Academy, 1948; Harvard University, 1952; Virginia School of Law, 1958; Virginia Law Review; Order of the Coif; and Raven Society. He was also a U.S. Navy lieutenant (jg) 1952-1955. During his career, he was an associate with Hogan & Hartson, 1958-1961; partner, Lichtman, Abeles, Anker and Nagle, 1969-1977; partner, Wald, Harkrader & Ross, 1977-1986, partner, Piper and Marbury, 1986 until retirement, 1996. Mr. Abeles lectured extensively, served on numerous boards and authored articles on corporate and environmental law. Mr. Abeles was trustee of the Corina Higginson Trust, president of the Harvard Club of Washington and member of the Metropolitan Club. One of his greatest satisfactions was the fast friendship of a group of fellow Harvard students who have shared their lives for 50 years, and who sponsor the Lowell House Q Entry Scholarships.
