Barrett Prettyman, Jr., describing his father's reaction to the decision (Judge Prettyman, Sr. wrote the district court opinion): "After this decision was handed down, "reversing" Pop on the law though affirming him on result, I took it to Pop to read. I jotted down his reaction, which was as follows: "That's the first big blow I've had in my confidence that the Constitution will survive." Circa 1954.
